Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) syllabus for civil service preliminary exam
Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is a newly introduced civil service preliminary examination to get selection in IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IPS (Indian Police Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IRS (Indian Revenue Service) etc. According to the latest information from the Authority of civil services, there will be changes in exam syllabus of Civil Services preliminary exams in 2011 which is replaced by CSAT - Civil Services Aptitude Test. As per latest news there will be two papers in CSAT - Civil Services Aptitude Test for students which will test their "aptitude for civil services" and "ethical and moral dimension of decision-making". Both papers will have same weightage and will replace the current exam papers General studies and Optional paper in civil service prel exam.
Currently the changes in exam pattern will be made in preliminary exam only from 2011 onwards. The main exam and interview pattern will remain the same. Changes in main exam and interview will be made after discussions with experts. Pattern for CSAT paper 1 includes Aptitude Test for testing the candidates from moral and ethical dimension of 200 marks and paper 2 contains question relating to current affairs and general studies of 200 marks. Impact of CSAT test in students
The sudden change in the civil service prel exam syllabus will surely affect those students who are preparing for a year or more to crack the exam. Generally civil service prel exams are difficult to crack and along with the change in syllabus will create huge difficulties for the students. This year students have to really work hard as there is no clue for the questions as per the latest syllabus. The only relief for students is that currently the change will affect only preliminary exams. Main exams and interview will remain the same. Change in main exam and interview will be made later.

Before preparing for Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) exams, students must understand the latest syllabus for CSAT exams. There will be two papers in CSAT exam where paper one will test general awareness and paper two tests Logical Reasoning skills/Decision making skills, problem solving skills, Communication skills, mental ability, analytical ability, Comprehension skills, numerical aptitude, Data interpretation and English Language Comprehension skills.
Each paper carries 200 marks each and duration for each paper will be 2 hours. The best method for preparing for CSAT test is reading the best CSAT exam books. News paper reading like Hindu, Indian express etc is very important as you will be asked lots of current affairs questions. Reading good magazines and journals like Frontline, Yojana, CSR etc are also important for preparing for CSAT exams.
