Looking for tips to crack Civil Services exam? Civil Service Preliminary examination conducted by UPSC is of two hour duration and of 200 Marks. This section consists of two Papers, Paper 1 (General Studies) and Paper 2 (Aptitude). Both the paper is of Objective in nature. As there are some changes seen in syllabus of Prelims, so there are also some chances of changes in numbers of questions to be asked in the exam. Know about Civil Services Examination Paper I

This paper is of two hours and consists of 100 questions of objective type and contain 1/3 negative marking and 1 mark for every correct answer. The topics covered under this paper include Current events of national and international importance, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, General Science and General Issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change.

Civil Services Exam changes in exam pattern

From last two years some of the changes have been seen in this examination. Nowadays questions are focused on concepts rather than knowledge. So, candidates need to study last 10 year papers and prepare as per them. One more thing candidate need to take that, don't try to memorize too many facts, candidate need to understand the topic as to remember to the most.

Civil Services Exam Geography Syllabus: Maximum questions were asked from this portion, generally 15-20 questions were asked from this portion with main emphasis on Indian geography with 80-85 percent and 20 percent on world and physical geography. This section is the most important one because it deals with attentiveness of the candidate. This section involves the Current affair of India and neighbouring countries of India. This section contains a huge part as it contains all the things which were going on. Candidate need to be updated with current social, political, economic, developments of national and international importance. Candidate need to refer a well-recognized national newspaper to be up to date with current affairs.

New topics for Civil Services Exam: Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change are some of the new topics introduced in prelim exam. Candidate need to make interest in these sections as they can be very useful for the upcoming exams. Civil Services Exam Paper - 2 Syllabus and Exam pattern

Paper 2 is generally the Aptitude sections in which wide variety of sections were divided such as: Comprehension, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Decision making and problem solving, General mental ability, Basic numeracy, Data interpretation, and English Language Comprehension skills.

Civil Services Exam Mathematics paper: Mathematics paper as compared to banking sector is little different, in this most questions were based on concepts rather than calculation. SO student need to find the concept to solve particular problem. At the time student able to find concept, then student can easily solve the question. This was the pattern seen all over the year in prelim exams. So candidate need to work on concepts rather than speed to solve fast.

Civil Services Exam syllabus for Decision Making:
Question's based on Decision making are very interesting as there is no negative marking and they totally depend on individuals understanding. Question on decision making are compulsory questions. These are generally 8 question numbered from 73-80 and are of common sense nature so candidate should not waste much time in practising that type of questions.

Civil Services Exam passage comprehension: Comprehension is the top scoring section in this paper, as answers were given in the question itself, the only thing candidate need to do is organizing answers in the better way. Candidate need not to make similarity between comprehension and English level comprehension. Comprehension section tests the comprehension knowledge of the student so it will be both in English and Hindi. Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level. Last year only English comprehensions were asked so no Hindi translation was given. The main thing in this is, candidate need to maintain speed and accuracy both to do good in this section. Candidate need to practice wide areas of passage like science, philosophy, economics etc.
