IBPS PO Exam Structure: An analysis of previous years' papers

IBPS PO Exam comprises of five sections and each section contains 50 Multiple choice questions. All the section has the weightage of 50 Marks excluding General English Section where it carries 25 marks only.
In English section all questions are of 1/2 mark each, whereas all the other sections has one mark for each question. All the sections are important and compulsory to clear thus they are very crucial and important, one should not go by the weightage of the sections only. You need to give importance to all the sections of the IBPS PO exam as the examination level is on the higher scale of intelligence and capability examination of the candidates appearing for the exam.
Although, the cut off percentage has not been decided but it is expected to be more than that of the previous year IBPS PO Exam. It will be decided and analyzed after taking this year IBPS PO exam. There are so many factors which will decide the pass percentage of IBPS PO such as :
Besides this there are certain internal factors which the IBPS will decided at the time of examining the result of the candidates. Although the IBPS PO cut off is usually on the basis of the number of candidates appearing for the examination still we cannot depend only on that factor.

IBPS PO objective type paper analysis
Number of questions: 250 questions
Number of sections: 5 Sections
Maximum Marks for Objective questions: 225 marks
Time for Objective questions: 150 minutes
IBPS PO Descriptive/subjective paper analysis
Number of questions: 3 questions
Time for Descriptive questions: 1hour
Maximum Marks: 25 marks
Section wise IBPS PO Questions and difficulty level analysis
1. If we match up IBPS PO question paper with previous exams of any bank exam, we can say it was about 80% similar.
2. Quantitative aptitude section had most of the questions based on data interpretation and simplifications.
3. Data interpretation covered up to 20 marks in IBPS PO question paper.
4. Simplification questions were given for 10 marks.
5. Bar chart and pie charts carried 10 marks
6.Table chart section had only 10 questions .
7.Percentages for 3 marks
8. Probability for 5 marks
9. Simple equation was of 5 marks.
10. English section was difficult
11. Reading comprehensive passages were lengthy, they were about 700 to 800 words in each passage .
a) 15 questions were asked in reading comprehensive.
b) Synonyms were of 5 questions
12. Paragraph with blank spaces had very confusing MCQs
13. Computer knowledge section was really easy as it included most of the questions based on the basics of computer and it's applications
14. General awareness: It was moderate and not so difficult. This section is usually left to the student and his intelligence and preparation for the various sections covered in this such as history, current affairs etc. with a special reference to banking sector.
15. General awareness had 17 questions from banking sector and rest from general knowledge.
16. Reasoning, section had critical and non verbal reasoning topics with 20 questions
17. Deductions questions were of 5 marksNegative marking in IBPS PO exam
There will be negative marking for each wrong answer and thus will reduce ¼ or 0.25 Marks from your score. It is advisable for the candidates to prepare all the sections thoroughly well and think twice before answering the questions or else they will loose the marks they have scored in the exam for the correct answers also.
IBPS PO candidate need to clear all the sections as per the IBPS PO cut off percentage set by them or else they will be declared failed even if they have scored good in total but have failed in any of the sections. Please note that the candidates, who have qualified for previous year IBPS PO Exam, can also take this year exam to improve their score.
