UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) 2012 revised and new exam pattern

Are you going to appear for UGC NET 2012 exam? Do you know from this year the exam pattern or format of UGC NET has been changed? From this year all the three papers in UGC NET will be in the form of objective type. So far the first two papers were of objective type and Paper III was of Descriptive type. The next change is that the marks alloted for Paper III in previous years was of 200 and now it has been reduced to 150. Now let's see the UGC NET new exam pattern and structure.

UGC NET 2012 exam question paper pattern

Here is the new exam pattern for UGC NET. The UGC National Eligibility Test has the following three papers.

UGC NET Paper I: The first paper is Teaching / Research aptitude which will have 60 questions out of which you have the option to choose any 50 questions. These 50 questions carries two marks each. The time duration given to complete this paper is 1 1/4 hours which will be conducted from 09.30 am to 10.45 am. The paper I in UGC NET is conducted to test the teaching or research aptitude of the candidate, where you will be tested for your reasoning ability, comprehension skills, how well you can think out of the box and to test your general awareness.

UGC NET Paper II: The second paper of UGC NET is of Subject Knowledge. There will be a total of 50 questions and all are compulsory. These 50 questions carries 2 marks each and the time duration given is 1 1/4 hours which will be conducted from 10:45 am to 12:00 noon. You will get questions based on the subject you selected.

UGC NET Paper III: The third paper of UGC NET is of Subject Knowledge where a total of 75 questions will be asked and you need to attend all the 75 questions and this carries 2 marks each. Within 2 1/2 hours duration you need to complete this paper which is conducted from 01.30 pm to 4:00 pm. The third paper of UGC NET contains questions based on the subjects you have selected.

UGC NET 2012 Cut-off marks category-wise

Now from this year along with changes in the exam pattern, UGC has brought about changes in the minimum cut-off marks for NET exam 2012. Have a look at the following UGC NET category-wise cut off markswhich states the minimum marks to be obtained by candidates in all the three papers.
  • General Category: Paper I - 40 (40%) , Paper II - 40 (40%), Paper III - 75 (50%)

  • OBC (Non-creamy layer): Paper I - 35 (35%), Paper II - 35(35%), Paper III - 67.5 (45%) rounded off to 68

  • PH/VH/SC/ST: Paper I - 35 (35%), Paper II - 35 (35%), Paper III - 60 (40%)
