UPSC Civil Services Preliminary examination 2013 official notification was issued on 5th, March 2013 vide notification number 04/2013-CSP. According to UPSC exam calendar, notification was scheduled to be issued on Feb 2nd, 2013 but was delayed due to some new changes in UPSC Civil Services exam pattern.

UPSC is going to conducts Civil Services Preliminary examination for recruitment of candidates to the services mentioned below for which the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary examination 2013 date is 26th May. Eligibility: With regard to nationality, for IPS and IAS the candidate must be a citizen of India and for other services they can be either a citizen of India or subject of Nepal or Bhutan or Tebetan refugee or persons of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietname with an intention of permanent settling in India are eligible to apply.

Age eligibility: The age limit to apply for UPSC Civil Services exam 2013 is between 21 to 30 years as on 01.08.2013. However the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC and other category relaxations is as per norms.

Educational qualification: Candidates with Degree in any discipline from a recognized University are eligible to apply.

Selection procedure for Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2013

Competitive examination of Civil Services exam consists of two stages. Preliminary examination and Main examination. Preliminary examination is conducted to select candidates for Civil Services Main examination. A separate notification for UPSC Civil Services Main examination 2013 will be issued at a later time. Qualified candidates from the main examination will be shortlisted for interview which decides their selection to varioos services and posts mentioned above.

What is new in UPSC Civil Services Exam 2013 pattern and syllabus

The preliminary examination of civil services consists of two papers which
is of objective type multiple choice questions which carries 400 marks. Only those candidates qualified in the preliminary exam can appear for UPSC Civil Services main examination 2013.

Syllabus for UPSC Civil Services Preliminary examination 2013
Paper I: UPSC Civil Services Preliminary paper I will have topics from Current events of national and international importance, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, General issues on Environment ecology, biodiversity and climate change, General Science. Total marks alloted for Paper I is 200 and have to completed in 2 hours duration.

Paper II: UPSC Civil Services Preliminary exam paper II will have Comprehension, Interpersonal and communication skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General mental ability, Bais numeracy, English language comprehension skills. Total marks alloted for Paper II is 200 and needs to complete in two hours duration.

UPSC Civil Services Main examination 2013 pattern and syllabus: New changes in Civil Services Main examination has been introduced from this year. This year the main examination of Civil Services will have a separate paper on Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude. The UPSC Civil Services main examination on ethics, integrity and aptitude paper is to test candidates ability in solving issues related to integrity, problem solving techniques in accordance to the problems and conflicts faced by them in dealing with society.

Also there is some new changes civil services main exam marks distribution and the compulsory subject papers for general studies, has been increased to four for 250 marks each. So the total marks for UPSC Civil Services main exam 2013 is 1800 and personality test carries 275 marks.

UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2013 online application form, fees and procedure to apply

Application fees: Candidates need to remit 100 by the way of cash deposit in any SBI bank branches or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner&Jaipur/ State Bank of Hyderabad/ State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank of Patiala/ Stae Bank of Travancore or can pay the fees using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card. Candidates belongs to SC/ST/PH and female candidates are exempted from fee payment.

How to apply: Candidates need to apply through online only. The online registration for UPSC Civil Services preliminary examination 2013 consists of two stages. In Part I registration, candidates need to enter the basic personal details and get the registration number and make the payment. Then visit part II registration and enter necessary details and upload your scanned photograph and signature and complete the process.
