Indian postal department, ministry of communication and information technology has notified the exam syllabus for the recruitment for the post of postal assistant exam for the year 2014. Since the numbers of vacancies for the posts are in abundance i.e. 8243, therefore, the number of applications will also be huge in number. The eligible and aspiring candidates are advised to start preparing with every sack of effort for the exam to get the best results. Concerned authorities have given the detailed notification for the exam syllabus which is given in brief below.

Selection procedure:


The candidates will be selected for the applied posts through the decided criteria by the concerned authorities. The procedure to get qualify in this competitive exam is a bot different from other competitive exams. So, the candidate must acknowledge the selection criteria in a better way. The marks obtained in past matric and high school by the candidate will also be counted in the final grade. 40% weightage of the marks obtained in 12th class will be considered and 50% weightage will be for the aptitude written test and 10 marks for the computer test and typing skills of the candidate. After clearing all these phases, the candidate will be given the call letter.

Syllabus & Written Exam Pattern


There will be two papers in this phase. One will be the aptitude test and other will be the computer typing test that will basically consist of several typical words of language Hindi and English to be typed by the candidate.
The aptitude test will be of 100 marks and will consist of four sections in total. The aptitude written test is to be solved in 2 hours i.e. 120 minutes. There will be no negative marking for any wrong answer, so the candidate can even mark the answers on guess basis also. Each section will let you score maximum of 25 marks. The sections are described below in brief:
  • General knowledge: This section will consist of 25 questions with the topics relating to current affairs of the country, geography, history and technological developments in the country. The recent economic and political issues of the country are also taken in concern.

  • Mathematics: This section will also consist of 25 questions that will basic ally test the numerical ability of the candidate. The formulas and topics did by the candidate till class +2 will be asked. The modified questions of the basic level will be asked.

  • Language English: This section will test your language skills including grammar, synonyms, antonyms and other communication skills.

  • Logical reasoning: This will consist of analytical and logical questions.
    The second section will be of computer typing. In this, the candidate requires to write 450 words in English and 375 words in Hindi. The minimum typing rate for this typing must be 30/20 wpm. The time allotted for this task will be 15 minutes only.
