As per Union Public Service Commission announcement, there were above 4,52,334 candidates appeared for Civil services preliminary examination and over 16,933 students have qualified civil services preliminary exam held on 24th Aug 2014, UPSC Secretary Ashim Khurana told PTI.

The examination is conducted by UPSC in three stages viz. Preliminary, Main and Interview - to select candidates for admiring and prestigious IAS (Indian Administrative Service, IFS (Indian Foreign Service) and IPS (Indian Police Service) among others. As per source, "Commission had made extensive infrastructural and logistical arrangements to ensure free and fair conduct of the examination," said R C Joshi, Additional Secretary of the UPSC. The successful candidates will now have to appear in the Mains exam which will be held from 14th December to 20th December 2014.

Ashim said, there was an increase of 40 per cent in the number of students appearing in this year's exam than last year for which 3,24,279 candidates appeared for the CSPE test. In addition, "During previous years, on an average 68 number of days were taken for declarations of results from the day of conduct of civil services preliminary examination, whereas this year the results were announced in a record time of just 50 days. Successful candidates will get more time this year to study due to early declaration of results," Khurana said. There was 2,137 venues across 59 cities in the country that conducted the civil services examination.

All the students who passed out are also required to take a print out of the finally
submitted DAF (CSM) separately after submitting the duly filled DAF (CSM) ONLINE. The
successful students will have to send the printed copy of the DAF (CSM) duly signed by the candidates along with all relevant documents including the prescribed fees, wherever applicable, as enclosures addressed to the Under Secretary [CS(M)], Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069, so as to reach the Commission's Office latest by Tuesday, 18th November, 2014, 5:00 P.M.

The envelope -2- containing the print out of the DAF(CSM) that was submitted ONLINE by the successful candidate should be superscribed "Application for Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2014". It can also be delivered at the Union Public Service Commission counter by hand till by Tuesday, 18th November, 2014, 5:00 P.M.
